perfect for 5 year old star wars fan August 21, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My 5 year old son has seen most of episode 5 and loved it when he recieved this set for his birthday last week. It is too complicated for him to build on his own, however, its a fun family activity to build together, and afterwards the pieces can be used to make designs from your imagination. He loves it, and has played with it every day for the past week.
Cam's Lego Review August 15, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
All my friends want to play with this one whenever the come over. It is so cool!!
Everything excelent except shipping box August 2, 2005 Everything was excelent except the amazon box where the toys were dispatched. It was so big (three times) compared to the original toys box, that I was charged two times the value of the toys on the shipping to my country.
AT-AT Tripping Goodness June 19, 2005 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The snowspeeder, (or the T-47 Assault Speeder, for you Star Wars geeks), has always held a special place in my heart. The place that asks, "how in the heck was this thing conceived?!?" Okay, okay, I understand it wasn't developed by Rebel technicians solely to take on the unstoppable AT-AT with its inexplicable harpoon gun, but throughout the movies and the games, that's all we ever see it do.* Despite this pigeonholing, the snowspeeder is a sleek, classic Star Wars design worth of a LEGO set, and this set delivers some AT-AT trippin' goodness.
This is, by and large, one of my favorite Star Wars LEGO sets thus far. Clocking in at 214 pieces, this is a larger small set, with most of the pieces going towards the speeder, and the remainder going towards the model of those cool-looking but ultimately hapless `radar'-style blasters that failed so spectacularly to stop any AT-ATs during the Battle of Hoth. The speeder is an extremely tight little model, capturing the feel of the design. Although slightly puzzled as to why LEGO chose white over light gray for the body (any and all pictures of the speeder clearly show it's light gray, like nearly every other vehicle in the original trilogy), it still looks crescent fresh.
Building the speeder was straightforward and very enjoyable. From the wing-mounted blasters to the repulsorlift-engine covers to the pilot's computer screen displaying an AT-AT, solid construction and neat little details abound. Luke and Dak fit in the cockpit much as they do in the film (slightly tilted back), and getting them in and out is a snap with the easily removable canopy. The most amazing thing about the set is the harpoon, which actually works. Not to say it fires (you'll have to use your imagination for that, I'm afraid), but it rolls out and rolls back up. Very smooth. If you do have a LEGO AT-AT, though, I strongly recommend against trying to bring it down with the snowspeeder.
Once you have the speeder, you're left with the radar-blaster and the three minifigures to round out the set. The radar-blaster seems like an afterthought - it is still a testament to LEGO efficiency (eight or nine pieces), but a decal for the spider-webbed pattern on the dish seen in the films might have been cool. As for the minifigures, they're what you'd expect - Luke and Dak in their day-glo orange rebel pilot uniforms, and the soon-to-be-blasted-by-the-Imperials rebel trooper. Luke has a unique face and comes with his blue "pre-hand chopping at the feet of Darth Vader" lightsaber. Dak, sadly, is just waiting to get stepped on, but seems happy enough. The rebel trooper is quite the oddball - he comes with a white backpack and a helmet with goggles that don't quite capture the look of the frostbitten rebel troops' gear. His uniform is fairly accurate, but his face is completely out of place. Not to say it's bad - it's actually quite funny. He's got some rakish bangs and a mischievous smile (complete with cocked eyebrow) that suggest he's either going to join a boy-band or sweet-talk the ladies at his favorite night spot, rather then try to delay the Imperials long enough to pack into a crowded transport and hope he doesn't get blasted by a Star Destroyer.
On a purely irrelevant note, LEGO, breaking with some forbidden LEGO tradition, actually made about a half-dozen orange bricks for this set. Yes, orange. I thought I would never see such a thing - what a truly wonderful time we live in, where orange LEGOs are allowed to intermingle with white, gray, drak gray, black, brown, yellow, tan, blue, royal blue, green, red and crimson LEGOs (not to mention the clear ones).
In summation, this set rules the frozen wastes of Hoth. $20 USD is a reasonable price to pay for the most delightfully ineffective piece of military hardware in the Star Wars universe. Harpoon one today!**
* At Rebel Research and Development: SCIENTIST #1: Man, these AT-AT things are killing us! They're unstoppable! SCIENTIST #2: Yeah, as soon as they hit the ground, our troops are finished. S#1: What can we do? SCIENTIST #3: I've got it! S#2: What? S#3: We'll get some kind of aircraft, and... S#1: Equip it with powerful blasters! S#3: No, we... S#2: Give it proton torpedoes to knock the AT-AT out! S#3: No! Listen! We attach a tow cable on a harpoon gun to an aircraft, and all the pilot has to do is fire the tow cable into one of the AT-AT's legs, then fly slowly, slowly around it, while getting shot at the whole time, of course. Then, at the exact right moment, he lets the tow cable go, and presto! The AT-AT trips on the cable, falls, and blows up for some reason! S#1: That's brilliant! Let's get some plans drawn up immediately!
** Sorry, sorry. That was awful. I just couldn't think of a good ending. :)
Rebel re-release (3.5 stars overall) June 4, 2005 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The only real problem with this re-release set is that VERY little was changed from the original, #7130 set. Sure, there are a number of little niceties that make it visibly different; but as far as added size, minifigs and piece count, absolutely nothing is different (this set has two more pieces--214). The noticeable variation here is the color scheme. The original was gray and this set is white. Now, you could get a group of Star Wars alumni together and have them argue all day over whether all the Star Wars vehicles in the films are gray/dark gray or white... and I'd have to say the original did have it right. So, in essence, Lego has satisfied both parties.
In this go-around you again get Luke, Dak and a Hoth soldier. The Hoth soldier is the only minifig with a change--and a small change it is. Also, his satellite is slightly altered. As far as the look of the vessel, things (mostly) got better. The front guns are more bulky and a little more thought-out; the back comes with an actual rotating string with a hook on the end (which is probably the greatest entity missing from the original); and Luke and Dak are actually back-to-back and not separated by a 'brick' wall. Putting this set together took slightly over a half-hour, which I think is pretty average. It was easy to assemble and it never become monotonous, even though the two wings are essentially identical (but flipped). The durability is good, although the bottom of the craft here does not have as great a handle for continuous zooming.
Had the look of this set been combined with the original's gray color, the Snowspeeder would've been one of the best Lego sets in the entire Star Wars line. Instead (and I say this hoping not to discourage anyone from buying this), I believe this is the weakest of the re-releases yet. Even the Landspeeder in the Mos Eisley Cantina set was a huge improvement. But this is a good set, and if you missed the 7130 Snowspeeder this is an advisable purchase, no doubt. And if the color doesn't bother you, ignore pretty much everything bad I've said, because most of my distaste for this set is in the white bricks. It's not that bad. Let the force be with you.

WHO IS BETTER? A STORMTROOPER OR A CLONETROOPER? Title says all. I think its a clone trooper because they are better at aiming, are more intelligent, help their injured companions, are independent, can work together, and have better armour. I know they seem better because they were only CGI (but didn't seem like it) and that the stormtroopers were older, and from the original Star Wars movies, I still like clones.
