LEGO Star Wars B-Wing at Rebel Control Center (7180)

The figures included are fantastic : a generic unnamed pilot figure in red suit and helmet with visor. Then there is a red R2-D2 named R5-D4, same as the one with the Y-Wing. Last of all there is a mechanic with a mustache, who is just as good as the pilot.

The ship itself is excellent, with impressive details. The cockpit turns which ever way the ship turns, to keep the pilot in place. There is an engine compartment and strike foils that swing up for combat and fold down for flight and landing. It also has special Rebel Alliance markings, and three laser cannons: two on the strike foils(or wings), and one underneath the fuselage.

The Rebel Control Center included is very well made. It includes the very cool sliding door contraption, a control panel, a swivel chair, and a display of the Death Star orbiting the forest moon of Endor.

Then there is a sliding tool train that is sorta like the one with the X-Wing, but this one has two carts. The first has this buzz-saw arm thing, and the second has a rack of tools(Man, I have countless amounts of Lego tools). I think this train is cool. Plus, the mechanic rides on it.

All in all I thought this was an excellent set and well worth the money for the neat figures, the swing-cockpit, and the Control Center.

We loved this so much, we decided to suspend it from the ceiling. It was fun to put together and its really great to be able to assemble all one's lego star wars vehicles together. You can really appreciate the detail and variety when one does so.

Although Lego has shown a tendency to skimp on pieces in these Star Wars sets (to make them more affordable, I would guess, and to off-set the expense of all the new pieces that they include), the B-wing set is not a disappointment. Clever rotating cockpit with unique pilot figure, storage compartment, and articulating wings are good features, and the Rebel Control Center makes this a great set for kids with a limited collection. It is not just a bunch of random pieces; it really increases the playability. R2-style robot and technician are neat touches too. Anyone who complains that the kit isn't true to scale is missing the point; it is a little small, but all these mini-fig sets are toys, not models!

I personally only buy Lego's for display, but I was very pleased with this set. Unlike most other sets with the same amount of pieces, it was very cheap. That was the main reason that I baught it. I don't play with my legos, but from the way it is built, I don't believe this is a set for the younger crowd. The set was very easy to build, and the sliding doors on the base is definantly a neat feature.
